DJ Deep Dive – LeeHughesDJ

admin | September 11, 2026

For Stoke-on-Trent DJ and streamer Lee Hughes, 44, electronic music has never been just a hobby—it is a lifeline. Operating under a signature blend of energetic, uplifting, and emotional Trance, Hughes has carved out a dedicated community on Twitch, turning a lifelong obsession with synth melodies into a powerful therapeutic tool for managing anxiety and depression.

A Delayed Musical Calling

Hughes first fell in love with electronic music at age 17, mesmerized by classic Trance Nation compilations and Stoke’s vibrant late-90s club scene. Though he experimented briefly with Virtual DJ in his youth, he put the hobby on hold for nearly two decades. It wasn’t until age 40 that he finally picked up a Pioneer FLX-4 controller and committed to the craft.

“DJing is literal medicine to me,” Hughes explains. “I deal with severe anxiety and depression, and I’m likely neurodivergent. I only really feel completely at home and happy when I’m behind the decks or on the dance floor.”

Improvisation Behind the Decks

Unlike producers who carefully script their setlists, Hughes prefers pure spontaneity. He refuses to pre-plan sets or stick rigidly to key matching, choosing instead to read his live audience in real-time. A typical session journeys from cinematic “orchestrance” into soaring vocal anthems, ending with high-energy hard trance—with the occasional guilty-pleasure Eurodance track thrown in for good measure.

Influenced heavily by icons like Ferry Corsten, Solarstone, and Aly & Fila, his current defining track is Factor B & Lostly’s Time Moves In Circles.

Community, Charity, and Club Dreams

Pushed to start streaming on Twitch by his partner Emma, Hughes quickly became an active member of “The Saturday Stream Team” raid train. For him, the chat room is a mutual support network that has helped him navigate personal dark times.

Now three years into his DJ journey, Hughes is setting his sights beyond the webcam. Alongside upcoming charity streams and aiming for 2,000 Twitch followers, his primary goal is to break into live club venues, with an ultimate bucket-list dream of playing at Holland’s legendary Luminosity festival.
